Vanessa Karen White (born 30 October 1989) is a British pop singer and songwriter who came to fame in 2008 as a member of the British girl band The Saturdays. The youngest member of the band, she assumes the most prominent vocal role in the group, and is noted for her extensive vocal range.[1] She is know by the media as The Saturdays' lead singer.
White was born in Somerset, England to an English father and Spanish-Filipino mother. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Central London.[2] She appeared in several theatre productions, including the West End production of The Lion King as Young Nala.[3]
White is the only member of the group to sing a solo part and ab-libs of every song on the group's debut album Chasing Lights (2008), and the album's title track "Chasing Lights" is sung entirely by her although the vocals are shared when sung live. This then states that she is the group's lead singer. The other band members refer to Vanessa as "our Christina Aguilera".[3] She has also received comparison to American singers Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey.[1][4] Along with the other group members, White will co-write songs for the group's next album.
White has mezzo-soprano range. She is mostly compared her to Christina Aguilera because they both have a four-octave vocal range. She is also compared to Raven-Symone because of her strong vocals. Its unknown that she can sing in the whistle range.
